Whitney Mongé
Whitney Mongé is an Americana Soul singer-songwriter and guitarist who learned to harness the power of authenticity while honing her craft as a street performer. Whether on the street or the stage, her performances captivate audiences, drawing them into the raw emotion of each song through her powerful, smoky voice and the intensity of her whispered lyrics. Raised with rhythm and blues in her blood and influenced by the alternative rock and indie folk scene of Seattle, Whitney's music is a unique blend that reflects her diverse roots.
Her rich, sultry voice, with a raspy edge, has drawn comparisons to artists like Brittany Howard and Lenny Kravitz. Through her music, Whitney gives voice to the marginalized, delivering vulnerable and profound storytelling reminiscent of Tracy Chapman and Richie Havens. Her bluesy, percussive guitar style is distinct, with influences from John Mayer and Dave Matthews shaping her musicianship.
In 2014, Whitney was prominently featured in the award-winning film Find Your Way: a Busker’s Documentary, alongside Chris Bellew of The Presidents Of The United States Of America and world-renowned violinist Joshua Bell. This three-year chronicle of Mongé’s busking career explores themes of creativity and success through the lens of street music. The documentary was nominated for ten film awards and screened at the CBGB Festival in New York City.
From 2018 to 2022, Whitney served two terms as a Governor on the Pacific Northwest Recording Academy Chapter Board (GRAMMYs), where she advocated for increased local artist representation and facilitated connections within the academy’s vast network. Passionate about supporting youth, women, and people of color, Whitney has volunteered as a band coach for the all-youth girls music program Rain City Rock Camp and donates performances to non-profit organizations annually. She also mentors up-and-coming musicians in artist development, branding, and songwriting, and has shared her insights as a guest panelist from an independent artist’s perspective.
With three acclaimed EPs—Steadfast (2014), Stone (2017), and Carry On (2018)—Whitney has solidified her status as a formidable grassroots artist. In 2021, she teamed up with the Grammy Award-winning Seattle Symphony to release the live album Whitney Mongé Live with The Seattle Symphony, showcasing her remarkable musical journey.
After a two-year hiatus post-COVID, Whitney is currently based in Asheville, NC, and is working on releasing new music in 2024.
